What is The Price of Dawn about. I can't seem to remember. It has Staff Sergeant Max Mayhem in it. but besides that I can't remember.

Counterinsurgence 2: The Price of Dawn is the video game that Augustus & Isaac & others play throughout the book. The Price of Dawn is the first book in a series of novelizations of that video game, and Augustus gives it to Hazel in exchange for her gift of An Imperial Affliction. It stars Staff Sergeant Max Mayhem, who, despite, for example, being shot 17 times, always survives & comes out on top to fight another battle. The fact that’s he’s seemingly invincible & that his story will never end intrigues Hazel. See chapter 3 of TFIOS for the scenes in which Hazel reads the book at the mall!

This past year in my graphic design class we were given a really general assignment to “redesign a film, book, or concert poster” so I tried to challenge myself by limiting the amount I could branch out and working, instead, within the confines of the original cover design. It was fun and I’m happy with the result!

trevorknappjones:

This cover is a combination two components from the book.
“I wanted to know that he would be okay if I died. I wanted to not be a grenade, to not be a malevolent force in the lives of people I loved.”
and this poem referenced in the book:
“The Red Wheelbarrow
by William Carlos Williams.
so much depends
upon
a red wheelbarrow
glazed with rainwater
beside the whitechickens.”
Let me know what you think!

Reversible book jacket design for The Fault In Our Stars by John Green

One side features an illustration based on Hazel, the other, Augustus. The design reflects the brilliant way in which John conveys the real effects of cancer. I think this is best summed up in his words:

‘I worked at a children’s hospital as a student chaplain for about five months, and I knew a lot of sick kids, and none of them had the secret of the meaning of life hidden deep behind their pupils… they were just people.’ - John Green on The Interview Show

i’m photographing my work from last semester for a scholarship application and i just took this one. my typography class was given the assignment to redesign the covers of 3 different books by the same author. i chose my favorite john green novels and had a ton of fun with it!
